The Anxiety Cure: 7 Strategies that will Change Your Life

18 December, 2015

Studies have shown that “you’re thinking about something other than what you are doing in the moment at least 47% of the time.” Sound about right? If you’re like most people, you spend most of your life daydreaming about your next move often missing the beautiful happy moments unfolding right before your eyes. Annie Dillard once said, “How we spend our days is how we spend our life.”

Focusing your days strictly on “to-do lists” and fulfilling the requests of other people is a surefire way to experience burnout. When you focus half of your life on what you “have to do” rather than being present you can experience a downward spiral, which leads to becoming stressed out, dissatisfied with life, and ultimately unhappy.

The quest for more peace in your life starts with moving away from life in the never ending fast lane towards a life of play and self-compassion.

In order to find bliss you must make taking care of YOU the number one priority. This is easier said that done I know, especially as a mom of two kids. Start by taking these three actions:

Find 10 minutes today, a quiet space, and something to write on
Make a list of what makes you happy and relaxed. Think back to a less hectic time in your life. What did you enjoy doing most?
Go out and actually DO ONE OF THOSE THINGS TODAY. Don’t wait.
Here are a list of hacks that successful people use to maximize their time and make room for self-care in their lives:

  1. Ask for help. Take all the help you can get! You are not a superhero and you cannot be the best at everything so find people who can do things better and save yourself some time.

  2. Break down all your goals into manageable chunks that you can realistically achieve. Consistency is KEY. You need to work regularly to reach your goals in the near future rather than stressing yourself out.

  3. Make a plan and follow it. It has been found that successful people know that a lot of time can be wasted in small talk, having no plan or not following a plan. They focus on 20 percent actions that will produce 80 percent results while they either eliminate or delegate the other 80 percent that offers 20 percent results.

  4. Keep yourself Accountable. Examine how you are using your time and identify the areas in which you are wasting too much time. Like social media, television, and of course Netflix.

  5. Catch up. Use any time you have to your advantage. If you’re sitting in traffic listen to a book recording, do some breathing exercises, just utilize your time.

  6. Ensure your days are well planned to be more productive, organized, and effective.

  7. You need to focus all your energy on what is right in front of you so you don’t carry it with you for the rest of your day. Motivate yourself to get things done so you can have time for YOU.

These tips when taken into account can change your life drastically. You will begin to find peace not only in your work life, but your home life as well. So just to recap, use a calendar app, get at least 7-9 hours of sleep, break down tasks, set deadlines, and learn to value yourself starting TODAY!
